The Egyptian premier Atef Ebeid confirmed that drinking water in Greater Cairo is 100 percent pure and available for all citizens, the daily Al Gomhuria reported.
The premier attributed this to the use of the state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to purify and disinfect water, including the use of chlorine and alum in the treatment process.
At the inauguration ceremony of the new expansion project of the Fustat water plant, Ebeid said, “laboratories are available to test water samples every two hours to ensure that pure water reaches all consumers. The water networks are checked regularly to ensure their safety in terms of hygiene.”
“Figures and statistics confirmed that we had achieved high standards of health and educational services and the safety of drinking water, lighting and roads nationwide,” Ebeid added.
The premier said, “the capacity of the Greater Cairo water utility has been enhanced and we have remedied most of the water leakage amounting to 42 percent over 17 years which is equivalent to the production of 800,000 cubic meters daily.” -- Albawaba.com
