A trial inauguration of the Alexandria Library is due to take place Monday under the patronage of Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, who will deliver a speech at the ceremony, reported the Cairo-based Al Gomhuria newspaper.

Mubarak will then accompany key international and local figures on a tour of the various sections of the library.

The first lady will “honor all those who contributed to the establishment of this grand civilized and cultural project,” said the paper.

Nobel Laureate novelist Nagib Mahfouz and plastic artist Salah Taher will be honored at the ceremony, during which a documentary film entitled Al Rishah Wal Qalam (The Quill and the Pen) will be screened. The film is about the life history of the two prominent figures from the Egyptian arts world - Albawaba.com
