Egypt’s Higher Administrative Court issued a verdict Monday endorsing a lower court ruling to kick a dual-nationality lawmaker out of Parliament.
MP Rami Lakah will be barred from his post under the ruling, according to the daily Al Gumhouriyyah.
The court also endorsed new elections in Al Zaher and Azbakiyyah in order to choose a replacement for Lakah, who holds French and Egyptian passports.
Parliament Speaker Fathi Surour must also weigh in on the case after the ruling.
A higher authority, the Commissioner Council, earlier endorsed the verdicts of the lower court on the ineligibility of dual-nationality MPs to run for office because, according to the court, such deputies have divided loyalties.
