An Egyptian border policeman was injured in the right shoulder on Monday during a shootout with Palestinians trying to smuggle weapons over the border into the Gaza Strip, police said.

20-year-old Mohamed Gamal Abdel Hamid was wounded in a shootout that erupted between his patrol and a group of Palestinians attempting to make delivery across the Israeli-controlled border with the Gaza Strip, which runs straight through Rafah.

The Egyptian police provided no details of the kind of weapons involved. The gunmen managed to escape across the border to the Palestinian side of Rafah, they added, according to AFP. (Albawaba.com)
