The Egyptian Airlines has denied the reports regarding the lay off for the company’s permanent workers due to the current international airlines crisis.
Chairman Fahim Rayan was quoted by the Middle East Times as saying that the company does not intend to lay off any of its permanent workers due to the current situations, which were created by the terror attack that hit USA on 11th September.
The carrier will, however, reduce the number of flights and some temporary workers will have to be laid off, the daily said.
The post-September 11 crisis is estimated to have shaved 15 percent off Egypt Air revenues.
The Executive Committee of the Arab Airlines Union held an emergency session in Cairo on October 13th to discuss the situation and ways of encouraging inter-Arab tourism. Saudi Arabian Airlines chairman Khaled Bin Bakr was quoted in reports as saying that his company had not discussed any plans to lay off workers. In addition, prices of SAA tickets had risen because of higher insurance premiums.
Meanwhile, EgyptAir has announced 40 percent reduction for the tourists on its domestic flight starting from November.
Mahmoud Hamid, Head of company’s commercial sector was quoted by Al Gomhuria as saying that Egypt Air is carrying on a special activation plan for its market in the countries unaffected by the terror attacks – Albawaba.com
