EgyptAir has denied that one of its planes crashed in Nigeria Wednesday, stressing that although the AirBus 600 suffered from a technical problem with its hydraulic system, the pilot was nevertheless able to land safely.
A top official at the airline was quoted by the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, as saying a technical team had been dispatched to Kano in north Nigeria to handle the problem.
AFP earlier quoted airport officials as saying that around 250 passengers and crew escaped unhurt when an EgyptAir plane on route from Cairo to Abidjan crash-landed.
The agency quoted the officials as saying that the plane came down at the international airport in northern Nigeria's largest city, Kano, early on Tuesday and all aboard were safely evacuated.
“Shocked passengers” taken off the plane told AFP they had been warned the plane was to make an unscheduled landing in Kano because of engine trouble when it suddenly nose-dived.
