ALBAWABA - Egypt starts training Palestinian police officers from Gaza to participate in a force expected to assume security responsibilities in the Strip after the war ends, a Palestinian official confirmed, as reported by AFP.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced in August, during a visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing into Gaza, accompanied by his Palestinian counterpart Mohammed Mustafa, that Cairo was working on a plan to train 5,000 Palestinian officers and security personnel in preparation for their deployment to Gaza after the war.

The Palestinian official, who requested anonymity, told AFP that over 500 police officers and personnel received operational and theoretical training in Cairo in March, and that hundreds more have been undergoing similar training since the end of September.

"I am very happy with this training," said a 26-year-old Palestinian officer participating in the course, who declined to give his name. "We want a permanent end to the war and aggression, and we are eager to serve our homeland and its citizens."
