Egypt has applied to the international organization for management and registration of websites for permission to set up a regional center in Cairo for registering websites in the Arab World and Africa.
An advisor to Egypt’s communications minister told the Egyptian daily Al Ahram that the proposal was aimed at guaranteeing the region’s companies a fair share of sites on the web.
“Egypt has the technical expertise and infrastructure that qualify it to establish the center, in addition to the fact that it ranks number two in Africa in using the digital addresses of the internet,” he added.
