Egypt and Pakistan are discussing ways of expanding their defense and military cooperation, said the Middle East Newsline (MENL).
The topic topped the agenda of meetings between Pakistani naval chief Vice Admiral Abdul Aziz Marzouk and senior Egyptian officials, said the news service.
Arab diplomatic sources said the meetings have focused on cooperation between the navies of Egypt and Pakistan.
Pakistan holds naval exercises with several navies in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.
Islamabad has been also marketing new weapons systems to Middle East states. So far, Saudi Arabia has agreed to produce and purchase light-arms and ammunition.
One option being explored, the sources said, is for Egypt and Pakistan to participate in naval exercises in the Arabian Gulf.
According to the Pakistani foreign ministry’s website, Pakistan and Egypt enjoy excellent bilateral relations, marked by mutual goodwill and close understanding.
