Egyptian airport officials foiled Saturday an attempt to smuggle 7,000 dried lizards out of the country for sale as aphrodisiacs, airport sources said. Customs officers at the Cairo airport found the reptiles in three crates and a suitcase carried by a Syrian passenger travelling to the Jordanian capital of Amman, the sources said, according to AFP.
The traveler confessed he intended to sell the lizards to be ground up with honey and sold as an aphrodisiac, the sources said. The lizard shipment was found to be in violation of export and environmental laws, and was subsequently seized, but the passenger was allowed to continue on his way, the sources added. (Albawaba.com)
