Egyptian authorities have ordered the destruction of part of a wall surrounding the Cairo home of newly-appointed Israeli Ambassador Gideon Ben-Ami, according to the Jerusalem Post.
High-ranking officials in the Israeli Foreign Ministry told Israel Radio on Thursday that bulldozers belonging to the Cairo municipality demolished a section of the wall Thursday morning.
Israeli Foreign Ministry officials expressed their utmost dismay at the demolition.
Egyptian sources said the wall was illegally constructed.
Earlier this month, Ben Ami presented his credentials to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, nearly four months after his arrival to Cairo.
The former ambassador in Stockholm arrived in Cairo in October 2001 to replace Zvi Mazel, who left Cairo last summer after four years in Egypt. (Albawaba.com)
