Annual trade between Egypt and China reached $100 million in 2000, reported the weekly Middle East Times.
Egypt exported $100 million to China in the period, while Chinese investments in Egypt were roughly $16 million, said the weekly.
Last year, Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation Che Giang Chang visited Egypt for talks on ending deficit in the two countries' balance of trade.
The Chinese official, who led a team of businessmen and senior officials, held talks with top Egyptian officials on enhancing the two countries' cooperation in industry, agriculture and the peaceful use of nuclear power.
China agreed on supplying Cairo with all necessary assistance and experience to set up and operate an industrial zone in the Gulf of Suez.
China also agreed to ease procedures and open its market for Egyptian citrus exports.
