Egypt’s antiquities police in Minia governorate have uncovered the base of an lotus-shaped obelisk with Pharaonic inscriptions in a baker's backyard, reported the Egyptian Gazette.
Police also found a ten-meter deep crypt leading to a tomb.
The police, said the paper, were informed that a 52-year-old baker had been excavating antiquities from within his property, which lies in the vicinity of an archaeological site.
The police arrested the baker while he was in the middle of digging a ditch - l.5 meters in diameter and ten meters deep, revealing the base of the obelisk and the crypt.
The baker and his three accomplices were arrested and are awaiting trial.
An expert from the Antiquities Authority has been assigned to examine the site, the paper added – Albawaba.com
