ALBAWABA - Ecuador announced a state of emergency after one of the most dangerous gang leaders vanished from jail, local media reported on Monday.

According to media outlets, the news about the escape of the leader of the Los Choneros gang, Jose Adolfo Macias, alias "Fito," triggered riots in at least six correctional facilities.

In detail, Jose Adolfo Macias was reported missing since Sunday pushing the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa to declare a 60-day state of emergency.

"I have just signed a decree for a state of emergency so that the armed forces have all the political and legal support in their actions," Noboa revealed in a video shared by Ecuador's presidency press office.

Macias was placed in a high-security cell at a prison in the city of Guayaquil. However, he managed to vanish.

He was sentenced to 34 years in prison in 2011 for various crimes, such as murder and drug trafficking.
