Economic and trade relations between Jordan and Japan

According to PETRA, excutive director of Jordan Investment Board (JIB) Maan Enour and Japanese minister of industry and trade and parliament member Hashiro Okonoji discussed economic and trade relations between the two friendly countries and means to attract more Japanese investment in Jordan.

During their meeting in Tokyo Wednesday, Ensour highlighted the role the Japanese ministry of industry can play in facilitating investment in Jordan.

He stressed the necessity to sign an agreement on invesmtent promotion and protection to motivate Japanese firms invest in Jordan.

Ensour pointed out to Jordan's importance as a passage for investment in rebuilding Iraq.

On his part Okonoji reiterated Japan's ongoing support to the Jordanian economy , due to the strong relations that bind the two countries and to Jordan's economic achievement accomplished during the recent few years.

He pointed out that Japan is interested in the Red-Dead project, as the Dead sea has become endangered.

Earlier, JIB organized a four day promotion campaign which included meetings and holding seminars in Tokyo city, where representatives of more than 50
firms participated.

Trade balance between Jordan and Japan reached JD288 million. JD 17 million are Jordanian exports to Japan. The volume of Japanese investment benefiting from JIB law reached JD. 31million.

Dr. Ensour extended a presentation to the Excutive Director of Japanese External Trade Department (JETD) Shenishi Sayto on JIB plans for the coming three years. He pointed out to the necessity to have JETD's technical support to make the plan a success, through providing investment experts to jordan .
