Amongst those honored was Mr.Thani Essa who fell four years short of a magical 50 years of service at DP World.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Abdulqader Obaid Ali, Director of Internal Audit and Quality spoke about the need to honor “People” the most valuable asset in the Organization. He quoted a recent study where all 120 CEOs polled agreed unanimously that “people” were their most valuable assets.
The awardees and special guests were addressed by His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem the Chairman of Dubai World and PCFC. In his keynote address Sultan Bin Sulayem stressed the need to focus on performance and accomplishments without harping too much on obstacles and roadblocks. He encouraged positive thinking and highlighted the example of Istithmar’s success story.
Referring to the global expansion and growth Dubai World has experienced, the Chairman stressed “we are growing big not just to be the biggest. Performance & Customer Service would be the sole criteria for expansion”. He went on to add, “Dubai World’s focus will remain profitability, and improving the performance of merged or acquired assets has become a competence”. He assured the audience that Dubai World would continue to focus on Customer Requirements whilst ensuring that all Stakeholders remain satisfied. He urged people to propagate a culture of performance focus and achievement; without dwelling on the drawbacks and pitfalls in the system.
Whilst speaking about “People”, he stressed that successful people get things done and thrive on challenges and gave a few example of outstanding achievers from the Group. He further added that “there is no perfect system in the world and an ideal employee would make a mark in spite of constraints”.
