Visitors to Dubai's e-government will soon have an upgraded network that will offer them faster and more efficient services, say the system's organizers.
The Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) is planning to upgrade its network within a month’s time to increases the speed of the entire system, the Khaleej Times reported.
Colonel Saeed Mattar bin Bleilah, the director of the DNRD, was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that “the project, which covers upgrading of the local area network (LAN), will be carried out jointly by the department and Emirates Computers, using the latest switch technology from Cisco solutions.”
In addition, a fiber-optic network will be used to link terminal one to the central passport section of Dubai International Airport.
The network upgrading at the DNRD will make it possible to add a greater amount of applications to the existing system.
According to Bleilah, the improved network will permit a wider range of applications, including imaging and administration applications along with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). The project is the first undertaken by Emirates Computers for DNRD.
"The department has always been a far-sighted and discerning organization in adapting cutting-edge technology," said Haythan Kamel, vice president and general manager of Emirates Computers, Dubai and the Northern Emirates. "The DNRD and Emirates Computers will be working as a team to ensure the success and completion of the project.
Ramez Bsaiso, project manager and senior network consultant of Emirates Computers, told the paper that they did not anticipate any difficulty in completing the project in a record time of one month – Albawaba.com
