Against the backdrop of growing cyber attacks on UAE websites, Dubai Internet City (DIC) is offering its know-how to build secure information technology (IT) defenses, a senior official told the Gulf News on Sunday.
“And if necessary, these resources will also be used to mount retaliatory attacks,” said Sabri Hamed Al Azazi, internet security manager at DIC.
"Our info warriors are ready to stop attackers, analyze their movements and even retaliate. A strong and secure IT infrastructure is the key to any successful business in today's e-driven world."
"Organizations under attack will act as countries and adapt strategies to stop the attacks. Some might choose to deceive the attackers; others might choose to trap or retaliate.
"The success that we have in the UAE in the internet arena will attract a lot of info warriors to start a few attacks against our agencies and allies.
"Recent attacks on UAE websites indicate the activation of cyber terrorist attacks and groups motivated by geo-politics or ethno-religion. Defacing a site and placing a Zionist flag has a meaning more than a successful hacking attempt,” he said.
Websites of the Gulf News and the Dubai Aviation Authority were reportedly hacked by Israeli and Indian hackers, respectively, last month.
"These [attacks]are meant to cause harm and not to collect information. Whether the attack was to subtly modify systems or destroy them totally, the objective is nullified. Any wannabe hacker can download a tool and destroy a system,” he said.
