The Emirati city of Dubai will hold in mid October a ten-day summit on children issues, reported the Abu Dhabi-based Khaleej Times newspaper.

The “Dubai Child Summit 2001” will be held from October 15 to 24 under the auspices of the Public Libraries Section of Dubai Municipality, it said.

"Dubai Child Summit 2001 is a unique initiative of its kind. It comes as part of future vision of Dubai Municipality that manifests itself in achieving all-round development of all segments of society, with special focus on nurturing the individual. This summit is yet another step forward in paying attention to children," said assistant director-general for administrative affairs and services at Dubai municipality, Obeid Salim Al Shamsi.

Among the highlights of the summit are an exhibition for children and educational specialists showcasing a wide variety of educational and cultural materials, said the paper.

The summit will also include a variety of children's activities, quiz competitions, art shows and lectures on various topics. Some of the programs are being held in cooperation with the Dubai Educational Zone of the Ministry of Education and Youth.

"Together towards a reading generation " is the slogan of the summit, which is likely to become an annual feature.

The logo represents two children of different ages. The two colors - blue and green - used in the logo represents happiness and joy.

The logo looks like a torch, a symbol of the light of education that never dies.

A brochure offering details about the summit, its activities and participants, will be published soon.

Publishing houses, audio-visual libraries, bookshops, stationery shops, and computer firms will be participating in the summit. There will be a total of 73 stands at 25 pavilions for the participants, the paper added – Albawaba.com
