The Emirati city of Dubai will hold the second annual UAE Career Fair in December to focus specifically on "emiratization," reported the Gulf News on Wednesday.

Careers 2001, the largest dedicated career fair for UAE nationals, is organized by the Dubai World Trade Center in cooperation with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and the National Human Resource Development and Employment Agency (TANMIA).

The fair, which was launched last year, allows young national graduates to meet potential employers from the private and public sectors, said the paper.

They will also attend a series of meetings and workshops, which will give them a realistic understanding of the employment requirements in the fast-changing UAE job market.

Ibrahim Al Hashmi, corporate exhibitions manager at the Dubai World Trade Center, said: "We have lined up a series of seminars, workshops and lectures during Careers 2001 which will focus on different aspects of the emiratization process and how better to prepare Emirati students for employment.

"The Higher Colleges of Technology are working on the seminar topics, while Tanmia will focus on the training aspect and workshops."

Careers 2000, which was held last November, attracted more than 9,000 students from the UAE's leading universities and colleges, the paper said. About 70 companies took part in the fair.

The rapidly developing Gulf states, which employ large numbers of guest workers, are trying to carry out an economic shift in order to employ increasing ranks of jobless nationals – Albawaba.com
