The visiting Mayor of Geneva, Pierre Muller, held on Saturday discussions with Qassim Sultan, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, to enhance cooperation in different sectors in line with an agreement signed between the two cities last year, Khaleej Times reported.
Both sides discussed the idea of establishing a joint committee to take up the responsibility of enhancing cooperation and co-ordination in various fields, including education, health and culture. Sultan was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that the meeting discussed the possibility of UAE institutions participating in the International Book Fair to be held in Geneva in May.
According to the daily, both parties discussed the role the Swiss Hotel group can play in Dubai 2003 summit while cooperating with the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) and promoting investments in the emirate.
Muller said Raffles International company which manages over 38 hotels under the Swiss Hotel brand in 33 cities has come forward to set up and manage a number of hotels in Dubai. According to the agreement, both cities would take the responsibility of working in an efficient way to exchange experience and cooperation.
The agreement includes technical and municipal fields in addition to the e-government programs.
The Municipality of Dubai will participate in a conference which will be organized by the Arab Institute for Urban Development and the Heritage Foundation in Saudi Arabia between 10-12 November 2001, reports said.
The head of Dubai Municipality foreign relations office, Munther Akram said that the municipality of Dubai would participate in the conference on the “Future Cities” in response to an invitation received by the Qasem Sultan, the director general of the municipality.
The conference will be held under the auspices of Riyadh’s prince Salman bin Abdel Aziz, and Dubai Municipality would participate with a working paper – Albawaba.com
