With Brazil being tipped to play an increasingly important role in international business as a huge emerging market, GAC has established its first fully-fledged operations offices to develop its business in the country.
GAC Brazil was established with offices in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In addition to general logistics services, GAC Brazil is focusing on the development of ship spares logistics business through GAC Marine Logistics (GML).
Focus on GML
Latin America Representative Rodrigo De Marco Frazao commented, “There has been a huge growth in the demand for efficient, professional ships spares door-to-deck delivery services in South America”.
GAC enjoys full access to supply bases at the key locations of Valparaiso in Chile, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to serve the needs of South America. The new GAC Brazil operation acts as a key point of coordination, communication and action for most South American principals.
“The maritime sector is really booming, and with it the demand for precisely the type of unique service package that GML provides,” Rodrigo adds. “We have seen a great deal of business generated for GML from Brazil, both internationally and with local companies.”
Transpetro, part of the state-owned Petrobras Group, has used GAC for its ship spares logistics services since January 2005, and another major contract just signed is expected to generate at least 100 jobs for GML by the end of this year. A 40% growth in GAC’s ship spares shipments is anticipated over the next 12 months.
Future promise
“The future holds great promise for Brazil, but it is important that businesses have the foresight to see the potential benefits to be enjoyed,” adds Rodrigo. “There are still plenty of challenges and problems to be overcome, but I believe that we will see a very different picture in five or six year’s time.”
