Egypt’s streets now host two million homeless children, and many of them are prey to drug pushers, according to a recently released report on social issues by the London based newspaper Al Hayat.
“The statistics reveal that there are two million homeless children roaming the streets of Egypt … These children constitute a main target for drug traffickers,” reported Al Hayat.
The article also revealed that 40 percent of the children detained in Egypt’s centers for juvenile delinquents were being held on drug charges, and that 5.88 percent of all youths in the 15-18 age bracket used drugs.
Al Hayat also confirmed that there had been nine cases of drug use and trafficking inside the centers in 2000.
