Despite a successful launch Tuesday of NASA's space shuttle Discovery from Cape Canaveral, Florida, concerns were raised due to images of debris falling from the craft during takeoff. Similar debris is believed to have been behind the crash of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003.

It is not yet clear whether or not Discovery's seven crew members will be required to repair any possible damages to the craft.

Testing in-space repair techniques and safety measures in the hopes of avoiding similar tragedies such as that of the space shuttle Columbia was to have been the focus of Discovery's 12-day mission.
