The Dubai Internet City (DIC) is negotiating with Syria and Jordan on transferring its expertise and know-how to these countries via training programs in the field of IT, according to Ahmed Bin Byat, chief executive officer of DIC.
Bin Byat was quoted by the Emirati official news agency (WAM) as saying that DIC was trying to reach out to other countries in the region by sharing its experience on IT.
"We are open to any country in the region," he said. He said that talks have been held with authorities in Syria and Jordan and DIC planned to have agreements which will formalize such knowledge transfer, according to this report.
The DIC was opened in 2000 Dubai in a major step for Dubai to establish itself as the e-commerce center for the Middle East by opening an 'Internet City' free trade zone. The $200m site was designed to lure international information technology companies attracted by tax-free trading.
"I had a vision to transform the old economy by making Dubai a hub for the new economy," Dubai's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum told the audience at the opening ceremony for Dubai Internet City. (Albawaba.com)
