ALBAWABA - The Danish Armed Forces have expanded their conscription efforts amid U.S. threats toward Greenlandic sovereignty as 1,600 Danes have been reportedly drafted for a term of 11 months.
Realizing a previous announcement stating that, starting in 2026, conscription would be expanded to include women and that the standard term of service will be increased from four to 11 months, with the number of annual conscriptions expected to rise from 5,000 to 7,500 by 2030.
This wave of recruitment is driven by U.S. bluster regarding the annexation of Greenland, a Danish territory, into the United States of America; consequently, the conscripts will be sent to train in Greenland in late August, taking over the duties of present military professionals.
The recruits will undergo five months of basic training followed by six months of combat duty alongside a new area of conscription training such as a drone platoon within the Special Operations Command.
The Danish Armed Forces heavily relied on volunteers for their conscriptions in the past, with the use of drawing lots to fill the ranks not filled by volunteers.
Now, Denmark reportedly is preparing for the potential mobilization of 180,000 military personnel in the event of a major war with plans to recruit up to 13,000 people into the military each year.
