Cyprus hopes an armed intervention in Iraq will be avoided but if this is not possible, then Cyprus should not be involved, even through the British Bases on the island, Defense Minister Socrates Hasikos said in remarks on Monday.

The Cypriot minister conveyed that the “government is closely monitoring the mobility in the British Bases lately but it is not worried”, according to Cyprus News Agency.

“Whether this operation will take place and Cyprus will be used as a base of operations is something which we do not know yet”, the minister said, adding that if and when this takes place, the government will handle it. (Albawaba.com)
