An advisor to the Egyptian minister of the economy, Mahmoud Mohiddin, has confirmed that Egypt is considering establishing a database on private sector debts, utilizing international expertise.

Mohiddin told Albawaba.com that Spain had prepared what is known as the “Matador Protocol,” and that Egypt could use a similar database.

The Matador Protocol is a database on private sector debts, including their type, currency and purpose.

Mohiddin added that the data would include the borrower’s credit classification, and confirmed that the proposed data “Sphinx Protocol” would not serve as a substitute for the activities of the Central Bank of Egypt in this field - Albawaba.com
