Damascus Radio on Tuesday stressed that the issues of Palestine and Iraq were essential points of discussion between Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

In its daily commentary, the state-run radio said that President Assad had affirmed a number of facts and rejected several misunderstandings being promoted by the “Zionists, as mixing between terrorism and resistance”.

The Syrian radio indicated that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government had “destroyed all the Palestinian facilities, establishments and infrastructure” and “killed a large number of innocent civilians”.

In addition, it said that Israel thus far had not implemented one single Security Council resolution and is still occupying several Syrian and Lebanese lands, in addition to Palestine.

“How can we talk about Palestinian terrorism at a time when they themselves are victims of the Zionist terrorism”, the radio, cited by SANA, questioned.

In addition, the radio noted President Assad’s comments on the Iraqi cooperation with the international inspectors and its announcement that Iraq is free of weapons of mass destruction. It asked why there are such threats of launching a war against it, while Israel possesses large piles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons and nobody refers to that, “as if Israel is an above international law state”.

Furthermore, the radio pointed out that the Syrian leader has called for a chance to be given for a peaceful solution and for international inspectors to work in Iraq.

President Assad has made Syria’s principled stance clear as far as the Middle East peace and terrorism issues are concerned. Peace can not be achieved in the region except by the implementation of the Security Council resolutions and the Israeli withdrawal from the entire occupied Arab territories, the radio also said.

Once the UN resolutions are implemented and its role is activated, no terrorism would exist anymore, since Israel is the source of every terrorism and terrorists in the region, the radio further pointed out.

The radio concluded that President Assad’s current visit to Britain constitutes a great opportunity to open Arab-Western dialogue. (Albawaba.com)
