In Syria, Damascus Radio on Wednesday voiced hope that the United States would act as the only superpower capable of establishing a just and comprehensive peace, which would restore “all the land and rights to their owners”, thus paving the way for security and stability throughout the region.
The state-run radio indicated that U.S. Assistant Secretary of State William Burns, in the course of his recent meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed Washington’s “serious readiness to find a formula to launch” the Middle East peace process, the official Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported.
Burns, according to the report, also underlined that the political solution is possible on the basis of the Madrid reference, Security Council resolutions 242 and 338, and the land for peace principle, which could “deal with the three tracks”, SANA said.
Moreover, the radio stressed that Israel has so far “evaded the implementation” of the United Nations resolutions and is currently paying the price of peace through death.
It wondered whether Israel once more would continue “trying to gain time” in favor of the Zionist regime’s, “hostile and expansionist plots”, SANA added. (albawaba.com)
