Damascus Radio on Monday stressed the importance of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's current visit to Britain in such critical regional and international circumstances amid ongoing US threats to attack Iraq and an escalation of the Israeli government's “terrorist practices” in the occupied territories.
In its daily political commentary, the state-run radio said, “Syria, since (the) Madrid Conference in 1991, ...considered the land for peace formula as the base for ending struggle and ensuring security”.
The Radio, cited by SANA, added that President Assad’s talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair would deal with bilateral ties, the Iraqi and Palestinian causes and the necessity of activating the UN role in dealing with these two causes to “evade the region dangers of unknown results of war” and “unifying the international efforts for forcing Israel to commit itself to the international resolutions” stipulating the Israeli return to the June 4, 1967 line and its acknowledgement of the Palestinians rights, including the refugees right of return.
The Radio concluded that Damascus’ clear positions and its commitment to international laws and charters have resulted in the country’s gain of international care and respect. (Albawaba.com)
