According to BNA, Palestinian Authority Civil Affairs Minister Mohammad Dahlan said that it was agreed with Israel that the rubble of destroyed homes in evacuated Jewish settlements would be removed from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.
Dahlan's statement followed a meeting earlier Tuesday with Israeli Defence Minister Shaoul Mofaz. Dahlan said in a statement sent to reporters following the meeting, "Israel has finally recognized the necessity of door-to-door system of the movement of goods following the Israeli evacuation of its settlements in Gaza." Currently, Israel forces Palestinian goods to be moved on a "back- to-back" system, in which Palestinian goods are unloaded and reloaded several times at various Israeli checkpoints before reaching final destinations. Both Dahlan and Mofaz agreed that in the coming days Israeli- Palestinian committees would be formed to implement the door-to-door system and improve the current situation for the movement of Palestinian goods until the door-to-door system can be fully implemented.
