Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou admitted in Nicosia on Tuesday that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's illness is creating some complications in the process to solve the Cyprus problem, according to CNA Tuesday.
He expressed the viewpoint, however, that from the moment it becomes certain that Denktash will not be able to return to the direct talks “it will not be difficult for the Turkish Cypriot side to appoint another interlocutor.”
The Spokesman expressed the Greek Cypriot side's fervent wish for achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem, if possible before the Copenhagen European Council in the month December. However, Papapetrou said “we owe it to respect the fact that despite the disagreements and differences we have with our interlocutor (Denktash), health wise he is in a very difficult situation.” (Albawaba.com)
