Cognos, the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management, has been ranked the leader among business intelligence and corporate performance management vendors on Business 2.0’s annual 100 list.

Every year, Business 2.0 magazine, published by the Fortune Group at Time Inc, ranks companies on inventiveness, quick reflexes and highlights companies that are setting the pace for the global economy. With a 27 per cent increase in license revenue in fiscal year 2005, Cognos was recognised as driving demand in the business intelligence industry for software that helps companies drive, monitor and understand corporate performance. Cognos is the only company in its industry to be ranked on this year’s listing. The magazine compiles the list by exploring the new ways smart companies, and the people who lead them, use strategy, technology, and innovation to succeed.

“It is our commitment at Cognos to provide customers with the highest quality products and services. Since its inception, Cognos has been dedicated to putting the right people, processes, and best practices in place to ensure that our customers get superior value and quality from us. We follow established software engineering practices in the conceptualisation, design, planning, and construction of our software products,” said Graham Walter, vice-president, Cognos UK, Middle East and Africa.
This year’s list was compiled from 2,000 publicly traded technology companies. Criteria for inclusion was based on companies that have been trading for at least three years, register annual revenues of at least US$ 50 million, and have a positive cash flow situation for the most recently reported 12 months.

Zacks Investment Research of Chicago ranked them using a rigorous combination of four financial criteria: growth in revenue, profit, and operating cash flow during the past three years, and the 12-month stock market return as of March 31, 2005. Cash flow growth counted for 40 per cent of a company’s ranking, while each of the other criteria counted for 20 per cent.
