The US Coast Guard said Sunday it had tested air quality in the World Trade Center disaster zone and cleared the way for technicians to return to their offices to retrieve important computer hard drives and systems.

The downtown financial zone not far from the World Trade Center has been sealed to the public since two hijacked jets piled into the Twin Towers Tuesday.

The coast guard said a group of nine workers -- three teams of three -- entered six buildings Friday in the World Financial Center and also on Wall Street. Several building were also checked Saturday.

Coast guard officials said office employees were allowed reentry for a maximum of three hours -- NEW YORK (AFP)
