Chickenpox continued to top the list of reported diseases in Qatar in the first quarter of this year, according to a report by the Qatari Department of Preventive Health.
Chickenpox accounted for 62.9 percent of the reported diseases in the January-March period, said the report, cited by the Gulf Times newspaper.
This was followed by STDs (8.15 percent), tuberculosis (6.5 percent), diarrhoea (5.7 percent), malaria (1.5 percent), Hepatitis B (1.6 percent) and food poisoning (0.6 percent).
Some six leprosy cases were reported in the first quarter of this year, said the report, adding that all patients were expatriates.
However, the number of leprosy cases has been falling since 1999. Two years ago, nine leprosy cases were reported, it added.
A majority of the disease notifications came from the government sector - 95.4 percent.
