Soliders in southern France opened fired on a car that tried to ram them repeatedly.
The soliders were guarding a local mosque in the southeast town of Valence. The driver of the car and an elderly worshipper are in the hospital after sustaining injuries.
The 29 year old driver was not known to intelligence agencies and his motives are currently unknown.
An amateur video captured the moment the car was driven at the soldiers.
The mayor said the driver tried to hit the soldiers twice, and they opened fire after the second attempt. One of the soldiers received slight injuries.
And elderly man was hit in the calf by a stray bullet shot from one of the soldiers’ guns.
French Muslim representatives have condemned the attack against the soldiers.
