A head-on collision Monday afternoon between a car and a truck in Iran left two injured, and led the police to uncover a smuggling operation of 350 bottles of alcoholic drinks, the Persian daily Abrar reported on Tuesday, cited by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

Spirits are banned in the Islamic republic.

The bottles were hidden in the car, said the paper.

Besides alcohol, Iran is struggling to cope with an increasing drug addiction problem stemming from the Islamic republic's location at a crossroads for trafficking heroin to Europe and beyond – Albawaba.com
