The capacity of subway train transport in Cairo has been increased to 21,000 passengers per hour during rush hours, after two news trains have been put to service, according to Al Ahram daily.
The paper quoted Minister Of Transport Ibrahim Dimeiri as saying that the decision was taken as 18.5 million school and college students started the new school year on Saturday.
Time span between trains will also be limited to 1:65 minutes instead of 2:75, which would allow more trains to serve the crowds using the underground, known in the country as “tunnel metro.”
Ventilation systems for 60 percent of in-service trains have been improved, added the minister – Albawaba.com
