IFEX-TMG members on Wednesday condemned the defamation campaign targeting the spokesperson of the National Council for Freedoms in Tunisia (CNLT). In a press statement, the organization said that a day following the publication of his report on misinformation in the media in Tunisia, presented on 7 May 2005, an "insulting and slanderous" press campaign targeting Sihem Bensedrine was launched in a number of Tunisian newspapers, including Al Chorouq, Al-Hadath and As-sarih.
The members of the IFEX Tunisia Monitoring Group (IFEX-TMG) believe "this defamatory campaign was prompted by publication of a CNLT report describing in negative terms the situation of freedom of expression in Tunisia."
