The association of Moroccan miners from the north of the country has launched an international appeal for their colleagues being held in detention, according to Moroccan opposition sources. The call is being coordinated by the mining unions and human rights groups. The campaign seeks to attract solidarity with the economic plight of the Ouarzazate region.

Khouya Mohamed, a union leader, and also human rights campaigner is leading the campaign against the Moroccan ministry of justice to release the detainees and is basing his appeal on the difficult situation of their families.
