Egyptian sources have said that President Hosni Mubarak is expected to send Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher or his political advisor Osama Al Baz to Washington in a bid to prevent the regional situation “from reaching the edge of the cliff,” according to the UAE-based Al Bayan daily.
Maher told reporters Thursday that Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres had called him and tried to “justify Israel’s assassination policy,” but Egypt rejected all Israeli excuses.
The sources told Al Bayan that the Egyptian envoy would carry “an important message” from Mubarak to US President George W. Bush about Egypt’s vision of an end to the violence and the region – Albawaba.com
