Resident’s of Cairo graveyards, who had been promised new and clean housing units by the governorate, were shocked to see that their new houses were in a very bad shape.

Al Akhbar Arabic daily said in a report Friday that the units had no water supply, no electricity and were so dirty, with piles of garbage inside.

Yet, the poor people who had only the cemeteries as their households have to pay EP75 in rent, big money as far as they are concerned.

For its part, the construction company undertaking the project said that they had been informed that the residents would arrive only on Wednesday, a day before they were moved.

Meanwhile, an official at the governorate told the paper that the services will be installed within a few days, but blamed the local administration in the neighborhood for the failure in getting the units ready for accommodation – Albawaba.com
