US President Bush on Fariday said he sees a "great chance" of achieving an independent Palestinian state and pledged to work with European leaders toward that end.
In a joint press conference at the White House with the British Prime Minister, Bush and Blair said that the way to achieve peace in the Middle East was through democracy.
The American leader said the US would help that process to grow. "We have a great chance to establish a Palestinian state," he said. "I intend to use the next four years to spend the capital of the United States on such a state.
"I believe it is in the interests of the world that such a truly free state develop. I know it is in the interest of the Palestinian people." (albawaba.com)
