Bulgarian soldiers stationed in Iraq have demanded a 67-percent pay increase to compensate for the dangers they face in that country, the Bulgarian defense ministry said on Wednesday.
The ministry said it had received a written demand signed by 359 of the 470 Bulgarian troops that form part of the international force under Polish command in southern Iraq.
The soldiers said they want 100 dollars a day compared to the 60 dollars they currently receive because "of the risks they run," AFP cited Defense Minister Nikolai Svinarov as saying, adding that he would consider the demand.
Since they left for Iraq in August, the soldiers have been paid one and half times their usual salaries, as well as the 60 dollars a day. (Albawaba.com)
