British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw held long talks on Tuesday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's younger son Gamal, described by a British official as an "important figure" interested in economic reform.
The talks between Straw and Gamal Mubarak occurred around three weeks after the Egyptian President appointed his son to a key post in the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP).
Straw "would like to keep in touch with him," said a senior ranking British official who asked not to be named. "He is an important figure ...., obviously an influential one," he added.
In addition, the official remarked that Gamal Mubarak, aged 39, an international banker turned politician, was "very interested in economic reform." Straw had planned to meet with Gamal for one hour, or 15 minutes less than with the Egyptian president, according to Straw's official schedule, according to AFP.
Gamal Mubarak has previously met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and he was invited to the annual Labour Party conference, the ruling party, last week in Blackpool, according to the senior official. (Albawaba.com)
