British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw on Thursday said his government was "broadly satisfied" with Iran's cooperation over Iraq after London's special representative in Baghdad warned Tehran to stop meddling in the country's reconstruction.
"Overall we are grateful to the Iranian government for the cooperation which we have received both in respect of Iraq and also in respect of Afghanistan," Straw told BBC radio.
"There are elements of Iranian society which have been causing disruption in Iraq and that's a matter which we have taken up with the Iranian government.
"As far as overall cooperation with the Iranian government is concerned we are broadly satisfied with the degree of cooperation that we have received. We obviously remain engaged with them," Straw said.
He was speaking after Britain's special representative to Baghdad described the role of a Tehran-backed militia in Iraq as "malign".
"There are elements in the Badr corps who are malign and interested in using violence against the coalition," Greenstock was quoted as saying in The Guardian Thursday.
"We are making it very clear to Iran that that is unacceptable, that will be further marks against them (for) stirring it up in Iraq and we will deal with the violence on the ground accordingly," Greenstock said. (Albawaba.com)
