Britain's Muslim Council is sending a team of negotiators to Baghdad to try to secure the release of British hostage Ken Bigley.
There has been no word about the fate of the engineer since his televized plea for help to Tony Blair on Wednesday.
Council members Dr. Daud Abdullah and Dr. Musharraf Hussain will meet religious leaders and urge Iraqis to put pressure on the 62-year-old's captors.
Secretary-General Iqbal Sacranie was quoted as saying by Sky News: "We appeal to the group that is holding Ken Bigley to release him without delay and without harm.
"He is an elderly man and he is due to become a grandfather soon. Be merciful. Our religion Islam does not allow us to harm the innocent." (albawaba.com)
