The bodies of 20 Egyptian officers who died in the October 1999 crash of an EgyptAir flight in the United States were being brought back to Egypt on Saturday for burial at a military cemetery, an army source said.
Army vehicles will pick the bodies up at Cairo's airport before the funeral, which will be attended by Egypt's defense minister Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the source said.
Military sources have said that 33 officers who had been training in the United States, including a general, were on the EgyptAir flight.
A total of 217 people died when the Boeing 767 nose-dived off the Rhode Island coast shortly after takeoff from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport. The cause of the crash has not been established with certainty -- CAIRO (AFP)
