Today Spinnakers will be flown, and mainsails trimmed as sailors from across the Gulf embark on the i-mate™ “Round the World Race”. This spectacular sailing event will see boats from several of Dubai’s sailing clubs in the water to complete the circumnavigation of the Nakheel World Islands off the coast of Dubai and make critical last minute preparations for the 14th i-mate™ Dubai - Muscat Offshore Sailing Race that will begin on Sunday.
The i-mate™ “Round the World” Race is principally a fun event to allow skippers and crews to smooth any last minute problems and be ready for the main race that will cover 360 nautical miles and take the boats from the relatively shallow waters of the Arabian Gulf through the famous Straits of Hormuz to the deep waters of the Indian Ocean. However, fierce competition will accompany the fun as the teams vie for the first prizes of the regatta and look to show the Dubai sailing community what they’re made of.
